Most Instagrammable Places in The Dolomites, Italy.

I’m really excited to tell you about the most instagrammable places in the Dolomites because it really is one of the most beautiful places i’ve ever been to in my whole life.

The Dolomites are in Northern Italy and make up a small but mighty part of the Alps.

So without further ado, let’s talk about the Most beautiful places to photograph in the Dolomites.

  1. Lago Di Braies / Pragser Wildsee

Lago di braies / Pragser Wildsee Best time to visit

Wow. Lago Di Braies also known as Pragser Wildsee is an absolutely stunning place to visit in the early morning. The people complain about how busy this place is, aren’t coming at the right time of day.

We slept in the carpark (there were photographers sleeping in their cars and people sleeping in vans in the carpark and it is allowed for an overnight fee), this enabled us to get up early to have the lake to ourselves.

We got to the lake at about 6:30am after a 5 minute walk from the carpark, got some amazing photos and when the boat shed opened at 7am we hired one and had the lake to ourselves in the middle of the summer holidays.

We went back to the van for breakfast and went to see the place again at 9am and it was so busy you couldn’t even see the lake from the crowds on the path and beach.

2. Alpe di Siusi

Cable cars are expensive here in the Dolomites, so we had to really do our research and choose where we wanted to go most. Many people choose to visit Seceda, but we decided not to because it gets really busy there just for one main photo that looks pretty much the same whoever takes it.

We are so pleased that we chose to visit Alpe di Siusi. In the spring time they say, there are wild flowers as far as the eye can see. We visited in summer and it was still beautiful. We absolutely loved all of the cute wooden huts dotted around the fields.

3. The Church of St. John

The Church of St John in the Dolomites is lesser known to the holiday camera snapper and more popular among the more serious photographers. There is a paid carpark pretty much right next to it and a small viewing platform to see the church from this angle with the mountains behind it.

It really is beautiful and I would love to see this scene all covered in snow one day.

4. Snake Road

Not the easiest place to photograph as its actually impossible to see it from this angle without a drone. However if you do have a drone this will be your dream hairpin bend shot! Just make sure you arrive nice and early in the morning so you get a nice empty road. Thankfully there are some big accessible lay-bys before/after (depending on which way you came from) so you can stop there to get the drone up into the sky.

This photo (and all the photos that have me in them) was taken by @jakeadv.

5. Karersee

Karersee dolomites is it worth visiting

We were actually a little disappointed by this lake in real life, it came out so beautifully in the photos though! If you have time definitely go here, you can walk all the way around the lake although its more of a forest walk since you don’t get views of the lake during the walk.

Its a really stunning place but as it was the last thing we did in the dolomites and its pretty small, it didn’t feel as impressive as some of the other things we saw. The carpark is pretty expensive, especially if you have a van, so we parked for free at the top of the steep road and walked down (which didn’t take too long).

6. Giau Pass

I didn’t expect this to be so beautiful but it was. We parked for free right under the mountains and stayed the night (with a long line of other camper vans and motorhomes). This photo was taken at sunset and, of course, lightened up a lot on Lightroom. The flowers were incredible, all different colours under a sky of even more colours. You cant miss this place if you are coming to the dolomites to find the most beautiful things to see and photograph.

7. Tre Cime di Lavaredo

Yes, I saved the most epic till last! To get here we paid the most expensive toll road, it was €30 (it will be more if you have a vehicle over 3.5 Tonne).

I have to say, it was worth it. Once you’ve paid the toll you can sleep in the carpark and wake up surrounded by the most amazing views.

This photo is from the main walk you can do around the base of the Tre Cime mountain. It takes quite a long time to walk all the way around it, I woudln’t like to say how long exactly, because everyone has a different fitness level and you will probably want to keep stopping to take photos because everything is so beautiful.

8. A Secret Spot

This is the last spot I’m going to show you today and its a bit of a secret! While you’re parked at Rifugio Auronzo (the same place you’ll park to visit for Tre Cime), walk to this place. Do this at sunrise, trust me. You’ll see the mist lifting and its absolutely magical! Just type this into What3Words app to find it: ///charcoal.brusque.excercises

Just be careful because there is a drop on both sides. Any/ all of these places i’ve mentioned, do so at your own risk! The outdoors can be dangerous and it’s up to you to make that judgement.

Guys, THANK YOU so much for taking the time to read this guide all about the most instagrammable places in the Dolomites! I really hope that it you choose to go, you have the most amazing time! Don’t forget to tag me in your photos on Instagram, id love to see them!
