So having been travelling full time since 2014, it’s safe to say I’ve had a healthy amount of travel fails. I have failed a million times so you don’t have to! Here’s The Ultimate Travel Essentials + The Perfect Travel Bag.

If you want to save yourself some stress and learn about the travel essentials that will make your life 100% easier, then you’ve come to the right place. welcome!

The Best Travel Backpack With Wheels

Here’s my backpack. Honestly, I love it. I’ve had this backpack for just over a year now and it’s completely changed my life. It’s funny how a simple thing like a backpack can actually change your life, but when you’ve been living out of it for 5 years, you become a tortoise and your bag is your shell. Choosing the correct bag is so very important and can be the difference between a stressful trip and hassle free one.

This backpack has robust strong wheels, backpack straps (that neatly zip away) and it opens from the front (kind of like a suitcase), so you can see all of your belongings in an organised manner. This is the stuff of dreams for me.

Here’s a little about why I chose this bag and the 5 year journey of backpack discovery.

The first travel bag I ever owned was a standard top loading backpack. Just the thought of having to unpack EVERYTHING just to get something from the bottom sends a shiver down my spine, I’m not even exaggerating when I say I pretty much wore the same two outfits for 3 years because I had such a bad relationship with my bag. I am however grateful for my first bag, it taught me how important it is to live minimally and it taught me patience.

I realised exactly the type of backpack I needed to invest in so I started dreaming up my own backpack.. if I could design a backpack what would it be like? And then I found it. It’s the Osprey Sojourn 60L (also comes in an 80L but 80L seems a bit excessive). When I first saw a picture of it online I knew it was perfect for me. And I still believe this is the perfect travelling backpack to this day.

Having the choice of wearing it on your shoulders or wheeling it has been a game changer and I will never go back to a regular backpack again.

All in 1 Travel Adapter

Lets talk travel adapters, I know exciting right! So this I the adapter I use. It can be used worldwide and has four USB holes so you can charge your phone at the same time as your camera without having to carry multiple adapters, how cool is that! I love that it comes in a little case with a multi-cable, so perfect and definitely one of my best purchases.

Reusable BPA Free Travel Water Bottle

What’s the one thing in my backpack that I use a million times a day every day? This BPA free water bottle. The reason I love it so much is because it keeps my water cold even when I leave it in the sun on the beach. It has a couple of layers so when you take it out the fridge it doesn’t get all wet on the outside, and it has a handy loop, so I can attach it to the outside of my bag for easy access. Stay hydrated friends.

The Perfect Travel Power Bank

I ain’t leaving without my Power Bank! This Anker Power Bank is small enough to fit in a pocket and big enough to keep you charged 24/7. It genuinely fits in the palm of my hand and its battery capacity is unbelievable! I spend a lot of time on google maps so my battery is constantly being drained, so having this little trusty with me is an actual life saver.

Why You Need Carabiners When Travelling

Your probably wondering why carabiners made it to the list. I can’t even count the amount of things I’ve used them for over the years. I’ve attached wet clothes to the outside of my bag, I use them to store my water bottle on the outside of my bag and I’ve even used them to clip my backpack to my belt in high risk areas. There are literally thousands of uses for these and they are ridiculously handy for travelling.

Are Packing Cubes Really Worth It?

My obsession for packing cubes only started recently. And now I’m thinking, “how the hell did I manage all those years without them?!”

My bag was a total mess for YEARS and it really stressed me out, but now I just grab a cube and instantly find what I’m looking for. I have a cube for underwear, one for swim stuff, one for dresses and one for all other clothes. I also have a cube for electronics (chargers and cables). These cubes have made my life so much easier and now I wouldn’t travel without them.

Best Travel Padlocks

This is the most trustworthy lock I’ve ever had. It is not TSA approved. TSA approved basically just means that as well as having the combination it has a tiny key hole at the bottom so they can open your bag at the airport for security reasons. Recently the TSA keys have been easier and easier to find, apparently you can actually get them off eBay! Which means if you are staying in a hostel and use a TSA approved lock, anyone with the key can open it. That’s why I recommend this beast of a lock. It’s not ideal if you just want to lock your bag at an airport but it is PERFECT for a locker. I do feel 100% safe with this lock. If you are looking for a lock to use for your bag at the airport that is TSA approved, you can find one here.

You Should Always Carry a Personal Alarm

I’ve had this in my bag since my parents gave it to me back in 2014. Thankfully I haven’t had to use it, but I know that it’s there in case of an emergency. Definitely recommend just having it attached to the inside of your bag or in an outside pocket! Not even just for travelling. I feel safer abroad than I do in the UK. One of these could save your life.

Water Proof Bag

This is my SAVIOUR! I use it as my general day bag if I’m going out for a hike, I use it to store my camera gear when I’m transporting my luggage in the rain and I use it at the beach to stop the sand getting in my stuff! I have the 10L bag, but my camera and other day things are a tight squeeze, I will upgrade to the 25L soon. I’ve had this for around 2 years and it’s still going strong! I even took it in the bath with me to really test its waterproofness, and passed the test.

Travelling With an iPad Pro

My iPad Pro is as well traveled as I am. I bought it when I first arrived in New Zealand when I decided to take my creativity to the next level. I was exploring the possibilities of making money online and creating art and photography. Fast forward all these years and here I am, still creating on my iPad but on a level I never thought was possible. Thank you iPad for helping me create this life.

The Camera I Use For ALL of My Travel Photography

If you’re wondering what camera I use for all my Instagram shots and product/ hotel collaborations, this is the one. I love it to the moon and back. It’s the Canon 80D with the 18-135mm lens. The camera it’s self has a flip screen that I literally use on a daily basis, the touch screen makes it really easy to focus on the exact part of the photo that you want to be crispy clear. I would recommend this to everyone wanting to learn more abut DSLR cameras and thinking about venturing into a photography career.

Choosing the correct lens is a very important part of photography. I have found that this 18-135mm lens is perfect, it means I only need to carry one lens with me as it’s so versatile!

This is the camera that has taken my business to a place that has literally made me cry happy tears. Without this camera I don’t know where I would be.

Best Value Hard Drive for Travelling

If you worry about loosing all of your documents and photos whilst on the road, this is the hard drive for you. It’s very light weight and can be used with any device. I have a filehub to help me transfer photos off my phone and iPad and onto the hard drive. Personally I think that for the price, this is the best portable hard drive out there, it’s durable and trustworthy. I also managed to find a really cheap but very impressive case for it!
